Originally from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, Nayra Ramírez is an Arts & Sciences Fellow in the Department of Hispanic Languages and Literatures in her first year at the University of Pittsburgh. Her academic background involves a B.A. in Hispanic Philology, two Graduate Degrees and several Teaching Training Certificates. She has taught in Spain, Mexico and Poland and has also been an international volunteer at Communities of Peoples in Resistance (CPR) of “La Sierra”, El Quiché, in Guatemala.

Her research interests include Mexican Literature, Indigenous Movements and Guerrilla Insurgencies in Latin America with a particular focus on the Zapatista movement in Chiapas.
