Adam Demaray

Adam Demaray grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and earned a B.A. in Spanish from Pomona College.  After his undergraduate studies, he received a Fulbright Fellowship to serve as an English Teaching Assistant in Comodoro Rivadavia, Argentina. 

He earned an M.A. in Spanish and Latin American Literature and a Ph.D. in Spanish and Portuguese from Tulane University in New Orleans.  His doctoral research explored questions of anonymity and recognition in post-dictatorship Argentina and Brazil. His research interests include 20th and 21st-century literature and film from the Southern Cone and Brazil. 

At the University of Texas at El Paso, Adam Demaray served as Director of Brazilian Studies and Portuguese for seven years, and as Spanish Language Coordinator for two and half years. He has taught all levels of Spanish and Portuguese language, as well as courses on Latin American literature and culture.

In 2023, he joined the University of Pittsburgh as a Visiting Lecturer of Spanish.
