Enrollment Information
Language Courses Wait List and Special Permission Policy
The Department’s policy is to not give special permission to enroll once a section or course is closed. This is one of our ways of ensuring that we offer the best learning environment and class dynamics possible.
What to do if a course is closed?
Students wanting to enroll in a closed section should go to class as a regular student would. The first day of classes, they should let the instructor know about their situation.
Instructors will compile a wait list with the names of all students present in class and who were not able to enroll. Every time a student drops the course, a student from the wait list gets in. The list works by seniority—the more advanced the student, the better the chances of getting a spot. The process will continue until add/drop ends.
While the waiting list is a private record, you can always ask the instructor about your position in the list and your chances of getting in. Please note that the fact of being in class and on the wait list does not guarantee that you will get a spot; plan your overall enrollment accordingly, so that you are not left without a choice.
