New PhDs - Good News and Congratulations ( 2008-2009)
Leah Strobel will join our department as Visiting Lecturer of Hispanic Languages and Literatures during the 2009-2010 Academic Year. (8 V 2009)
Lizardo Herrera successfully defended his dissertation, "Etica, utopía e intoxicación en 'Rodrigo D. No Futuro' y "La vendedora de rosas." (20 IV 2009)
Fabio López de la Roche has successfully defended his dissertation, “Conflicto, hegemonía y nacionalismo tutelado en Colombia 2002-2008: entre la comunicación gubernamental y la ficción noticiosa de televisión.” He will be returning to Bogotá where this fall he will rejoin the Instituto de Estudios Políticos y Relaciones Internacionales at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. Rubén Sánchez-Godoy has successfully defended his dissertation, “Mercancía, gentes pacíficas y plaga: Bartolomé de las Casas y los orígenes del pensamiento abolicionista en el Atlántico Ibérico.” (6 IV 2009) Earlier this semester, he accepted a position as Assistant Professor in the Department of Foreign Languages at Southern Methodist University, starting in the fall 2009 semester. Rafael Ponce-Cordero has accepted a position as Assistant Professor in the Spanish Section of the Department of Foreign Languages, Literatures and Cultures at Central Michigan University where he has been teaching since fall 2008. (25 III 2009)
Debbie Bensadon will join the Department of Comparative Cultures at Eckerd College in fall, 2009, as Assistant Professor of Spanish. (18 II 2009)
